There are many reasons to ingest your placenta.
What I think happens is that placenta encapsulation helps shore up your iron and ferritin levels, which then in turn help you feel more capable as a human and assist your body to its return to homeostasis.
Reasons not to ingest your placenta:
Street drug use, placental infections, PIH and Pre- E.
Another reason I’ve heard folks not want to take their placenta is they’ve had a spike in anxiety when taking the pills in the past. I think the issue with that is taking too many pills. My recommended dose is two in the morning and one in the afternoon. If that makes you feel jittery, then dial it back to one each morning.
The goal is to have sustained energy and mood support, and not like you’ve pulled an all-nighter fueled by Red Bull.

I started encapsulating placentas in 2010, and I had a basic knowledge of raw food theory and how hormones found in the placenta could help a postpartum body feel ok again. At the time, I only knew of three other folks encapsulating.
What’s included for $375.00?
- Inspected, the amniotic sack is trimmed off, and then cut into small pieces.
- Flash soak of placenta in water with ACV (apple cider vinegar) to minimize any pathogenic bacteria.
- Dehydration of your placenta following a raw food prep method; dehydrated at 125 for 36-72 hours.
- Encapsulation, app 75-150 pill depending on the size and health of your placenta.
- The umbilical cord dried as a keepsake if desired.
If possible when placenta pills are dropped off a midwifery postpartum visit will be offered for established Preggers CAN Be Choosers patients.
